My Career Path Thus Far
I completed both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in the School of Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University. After some part-time teaching at BCIT and the Open Learning Agency, I left for medical school. I attended Ross University School of Medicine with the majority of my clinical training in New York City, graduating in 2007.
I did my residency at the University of Louisville Department of Family and Geriatric Medicine and served as one of the chief residents in my last year there (2011).
During my time there, I also sat as the U.S. resident representative on the board of the North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG), which allowed me to combine my interests in clinical and research medicine.
After completing my residency, three of my colleagues and I moved to the rural town of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, to start a hospital-owned clinic. It was a hybrid of a walk-in clinic and a primary care practice. At the same time, I participated in the primary care arm of a community mental health centre, working alongside psychiatry colleagues in a team-based patient-centered health clinic. During my last year in Kentucky, I served as the Chief Medical Officer of a new federally qualified health centre which was operating two clinics.
In November 2014, I participated in a consultation group which reviewed Ross University’s health centre on campus (in Dominica), and subsequently took an interim position as its Campus Medical Director for the first semester of 2015.
I decided to transition back to working in Canada and was delighted to start practicing in Burnaby in October 2015 at PrimeCare Medical. The following year, I accepted the role of Lead Physician at BCIT Student Health Services, and continue to serve the campus community.
I’m excited to start the next chapter in my medical career with the opening of my own modern state-of-the-art clinic in Vancouver, Blue Water Medical. Here I will continue to enjoy the breadth and depth of full service outpatient family practice.
