High Blood Pressure
What is high blood pressure?
High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, develops when your blood pressure reaches unhealthy levels. To diagnose hypertension, your physician monitors the amount of blood the heart pumps and the arteries’ resistance to the blood flow while the heart is pumping. Over time, the force of the blood against the artery walls can cause more serious health issues. Therefore, it is important to diagnose high blood pressure as quickly as possible. At Blue Water Medical, we will do a thorough examination and diagnosis, creating a specialized plan to treat and monitor your hypertension.
How do develop high blood pressure?
Hypertension generally develops over the course of a lifetime. As as result, many people aren’t even aware they have high blood pressure. It can exist for months or even years without showing any signs or symptoms, however, hypertension can still do damage to the blood vessels and heart during that time. Caused by many different factors, symptoms for hypertension include: genetics, obesity, lifestyle choices, age, ethnicity, diet, and other medical conditions. There are two mains of hypertension: primary and secondary hypertension.
What are the differences between primary and secondary hypertension?
Primary hypertension develops over time, and it is the most common type of high blood pressure. Secondary hypertension is generally more severe than primary hypertension, and the onset of second hypertension occurs rapidly.
What are the symptoms of hypertension?
The symptoms of hypertension can include:
- Shortness of breath
- Nose Bleeds
- Heart Palpitations
How do you diagnose high blood pressure?
It is important to have high blood pressure diagnosed, even if you aren’t experiencing complications or symptoms, as damage is still being done, and, untreated, hypertension can cause major cardiovascular and neurological issues. That’s why it is important to schedule annual check ups with your physician. Your provider will run tests and blood work to check for hypertension, and, if diagnosed, they will carefully manage and monitor the issue. Most importantly, note that hypertension, although it can cause major issues if untreated, is easily diagnosed and treatable.
